Professional development for teachers through the Further Mathematics Support Programme

FMSP CPD

A key aim of the Further Mathematics Support Programme is to contribute to the continuing professional development of mathematics teachers.
There is a range of training being offered by the FMSP supported by your local Area Coordinator.

  • There will be courses for A level Maths and Further Maths and support for those teaching level 3 Diplomas in your area.
  • In some areas the FMSP will collaborate with CPD provision offered by local Universities.
  • There are a range of courses being offered through the live on-line professional development programme using Elluminate.
  • Many teachers have found that attending FMSP revision days is an excellent way to gain an overview of an A level Mathematics or Further Mathematics module.
  • For details on CPD events being held in your area, please see links on the right.

This page contains useful information and resources regarding professional development.

Teaching Further Mathematics (TFM)

Teaching Further Mathematics is aimed at teachers who want to improve their subject knowledge or become familiar with the content of some of the new Further Mathematics units. During the course participants study the content of Further Maths from a teaching and learning perspective.

The emphasis will be on expanding the participants' mathematical horizons and giving them a deeper understanding of the links within mathematics.

The course is studied over a year and covers the Pure Mathematics content of all four English A level Further Mathematics examination specifications. There is no expectation that participants will be teaching any of these modules during the course.

Participants will receive website and email support from the module tutor.

For more information please see: http://www.furthermaths.org.uk/teacher_area/tfm.php

Resources for registered schools and colleges

Schools and colleges that register with the FMSP receive a single username to access the online resources for AS/A2 applied mathematics and further pure mathematics units. The resources include teachers’ notes a range of interactive materials that can be used to support teaching and learning.

Many teachers have reported how useful they have found these resources are when teaching a unit for the first time, or to find new ideas for teaching units they are already familiar with.

For more information and details of the resources available see the resources area http://www.furthermaths.org.uk/resources.php
