The UK Mathematics Trust and the Further Mathematics Support Programme

UKMT/FMSP Senior Team Mathematics Challenge 2011/12, sponsored by Hewlett Packard

• A team competition for students in years 11, 12 and 13 testing mathematical, communication and teamwork skills.


• Over 50 regional heats took place across the UK in November and December 2011.


• Winners have been invited to the national final on Wednesday 1st February 2012 in London.

• 2010/11 - Harrow School

  On February 2nd at the Camden Centre, London, 65 teams competed in the 2010/11 STMC Final. Teams had already competed in a heat, which had taken place all round the country. The overall winners of the competition were Harrow School. Second place went to Colchester Royal Grammar School and there was a three-way tie for third between Merchant Taylors' School, Abingdon School and Concord College. During the day there was also a poster competition, which was won by North London Collegiate, with Bootham school in second place and Abingdon in third. Karen FitzGerald from hp calculators was able to attend the event and awarded the prizes.

• 2009/10 - Westminster School

  On February 3rd at the Camden Centre, London, 69 teams competed in the 2009/10 STMC Final. Teams had already competed in a heat, which had taken place all round the country. The overall winners of the competition were Westminster School, who successfully defended the title they won in 2008/09. Second place went to King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford and third place was Abingdon School. During the day there was also a poster competition, which was won by King Edward VI High School for Girls. Professor Marcus du Sautoy was able to attend the event and awarded the prizes.

• 2008/09 - Westminster School

  In February 2009 the STMC final was held in London where sixty teams from schools around the country competed. The event was a huge success, despite being postponed due to the extreme weather conditions. Special guest Simon Singh kindly made an appearance to give a short talk and to present the prizes to the winners and runners up. The winning team from Westminster School was made up of students Andrew Hyer, James Male, Ramana McConnon and Anna Seigal.
