March 2010: Big ideas in A Level Mathematics CPD 18/27 March
Thursday 18th March and Saturday 27th March see two more CPD days on 'Big ideas in A Level Mathematics'. Full details of these events can be seen here.
March 2010: Feedback sought on Online Resources
MEI is currently seeking feedback from users of their Online Resources. Schools/colleges that register with the FMSP receive a free single user login to the resources. We would be very pleased if you could make time to complete the survey, which can be found once you login to the resources site itself.
March 2010: Conference for Teachers of Mathematics
Durham University is hosting an exciting and innovative conference for teachers of mathematics from 11th to 13th April 2010. You can see further details on their webpages.
February 2010: Teaching Further Mathematics course starting July 2010

February 2010: Residential Maths Masterclass 7th-9th April
Royal Holloway, University of London, are running a residential Maths Masterclass for sixth form students from 7th to 9th April. There are still 10 places for students left on this course. January 2010: FMSP Vacancy South East
The Further Mathematics Support Programme is looking to appoint a half time Area Co-ordinator in the South East region.
The person appointed will have a good knowledge of Mathematics A level, Further Mathematics. They will work as part of a team of three Area Coordinators across the South East region, playing a key role in the operation of the Further Mathematics Support Programme, contributing to the strategic development and decision making for the area. The person appointed will be employed by Royal Holloway, but will not have to work from the University.

January 2010: FMSP helps students during school closures
The FMSP has been able to provide recordings of C1 revision sessions that will be particularly useful for teachers and schools affected by school closures. See our press release for details.

December 2009: Durham University Distant Mathematics Challenge 2010
Durham University have designed a Mathematics Challenge to select students who will be invited to the Durham Gifted and Talented Summer School in August 2010. However, their wider mission is to promote mathematical thinking, so submissions from everyone in years 9 to 13 are welcome.

December 2009: 'Headstart' summer residential course for Further Mathematics students at the University of Durham
The FMSP has been working with Headstart to set up university residential courses for A level Further Mahematics studets. The first course will take place at the University of Durham from the 5th to the 8th of July.

November 2009: FMSP Vacancy South West
FMSP South West Area Coordinator Ted Graham is looking for somebody to work with him at the University of Plymouth on the FMSP project. A lot of the work would be tutoring in the Plymouth area, but it would also involve revision days, enrichment days and CPD. The post is a 0.3 part-time and runs until the end of August 2011. Ted would be keen to see somebody start as soon as possible, but do not let that put you off applying. It may be possible arrange a secondment.

November 2009: Royal Statistical Society CPD course for teachers of pre-university statistics
This course starts in December and is suitable for teachers of AS/A level Maths and Further Mathematics who want to develop their knowledge of statistics. See flyer for details.
October 2009: FMSP and NCETM Further Mathematics support meetings
The Further Mathematics Support Programme and the National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics are holding a series of meetings for Further Maths teachers and those interested in teaching Further Mathematics.

As part of the ongoing work to support the Learning and Skills Sector the LSIS STEM Programme is running a series of network events in Science, Maths and Engineering during the Autumn term.

October 2009: Meeting to discuss FMSP support for mathematics within the Level 3 Engineering Dilpoma
A meeting organised through the FMSP to discuss the mathematics elements of the Level 3 Engineering Dilpoma is taking place at the University of Loughborough on Thursday 5 November. The programme includes input from an Engineering amissions tutor, the AQA principal examiner and a teacher who is currently teaching the course. It also discusses resources and support available to teachers and lecturers. The programme and enrolment form can be downloaded here.
October 2009: 11th IMA Younger Mathematicians Conference.
The 11th IMA Younger Mathematicians Conference takes place in Birmingham on 14th November. For further details see the IMA webpages.
Stephen Lee, the FMSP Data Analyst/Web Manager, is a member of the Younger Mathematicians committee and shall be attending this event should any attendees wish to discuss anything involving Mathematics Education.
September 2009: New FMSP Leaflet for Head Teachers and Principals
The FMSP has produced a new leaflet for Head Teachers of schools teaching at Key Stage 5, and Principals of colleges. We hope this will encourage more schools and colleges to offer their students the opportunity to study for Further Mathematics qualifications. The leaflet will be issued by post later this month together with a poster for of a new competition we are launching.
September 2009: Summer 2009 student survey prize draw winner
Congratulations to Martin Evans, a former Further Mathematics Network student from Derbyshire, who is the lucky winner of the prize draw of our summer 2009 student survey. Martin will receive a £100 Waterstone’s voucher.
August 2009: NCETM Mathematics Knowledge Networks
In the next round of NCETM Mathematics Knowledge Network grants NCETM is keen for teachers from sixth form and FE who are teaching A level to take part. They will get £2,000 to do research in their own school or network.
August 2009 - AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics numbers continue to increase dramatically
The numbers of students taking AS and A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics qualifications have increased very significantly this year. The Further Mathematics increases are the highest of any mainstream A level subject.
