About the Region

Welcome to the FMSP North West Regional Page

The region is managed by Martin Bamber and Abigail Bown.

If you are located in any of the following Local Authorities, then Martin Bamber is your area coordinator:
Blackpool, Cheshire West and Chester, Cumbria, Halton, Knowsley, Lancashire, Liverpool, Sefton, St. Helens, Wirral.

If you are located in any of the following Local Authorities, then Abigail Bown is your area coordinator:
Blackburn with Darwen, Bolton, Bury, Cheshire East, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Warrington, Wigan.

The North West FMSP aims to promote mathematics and to support the teaching and learning of AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics in secondary schools and colleges across the North West. In particular, we want to enable all schools and colleges in the North West that teach A level Mathematics to also offer AS/A level Further Mathematics. We also support the teaching and learning of level 3 mathematics within diplomas.

FMSP support includes:

• Student tuition for AS/A level Further Mathematics
• CPD/Teacher Support for AS/A level Mathematics teachers and teachers of mathematics within the level 3 Engineering Dilploma
• Free access to the MEI Resources Website (supporting all AS/A level Mathematics and Further Matheamtics specifications)
• Mathematics enrichment courses for students in Key Stage 4 and post-16
• AS and A2 Mathematics Revision Days (usually in December and May)
• The Senior Team Mathematical Challenge for students in years 12/13 in November

We invite all secondary schools and colleges in the North West to register, free of charge, with the FMSP. This allows you free access to extensive online mathematics resources and enables you to be kept informed of FMSP activities, both within your local area and nationally.

You can register quickly and easily by using the link in the box at the top of the page.

Interested in AS/A Level Further Mathematics tuition, professional development, or support with mathematics within level 3 diplomas?

• Does your school or college offer A Level Mathematics but not Further Mathematics?
• Do you need help with teaching AS/A level Mathematics and/or Further Mathematics?
• Do you need support on teaching mathematics within the level 3 Engineering Diploma?

The FMSP can provide expert AS/A level Further Mathematics tuition for your students, professional development for A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics teachers and give support on teaching and learning mathematics within the level 3 Engineering diploma.

FREE A2 Further Maths CPD Event
News imageUniversity of Manchester hosted a free A2 Further Maths Professional on Monday 28th June.

The day, which covered 5 of the main topics from the A2 Further Maths Syllabus was a great success and a similar day is palnned for Summer 2011

Further Mathematics Knowledge Network Meetings (FMKNs)
News imageThe Manchester Further Maths Knowledge Network is now up and running having had its first 2 meetings. The next meetings are planned for the Autumn term with the themes of: Incorporating Autograph into Further Pure Teaching and Practical Mechanics. (see Events page for more details)

New Networks are being planned for Liverpool and Lancashire/Cumbria.
